Photos: Mahama cuts sod for new multi-storey Airport car park, other facilities

President John Dramani Mahama recently ceremonially laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art seven-story multi-purpose car park and commercial complex at Terminal 3 of the Accra International Airport. This ambitious project, positioned as a significant investment, aims to boost airport capacity and elevate the passenger experience. The facility will accommodate approximately 2,030 covered parking bays, coupled with commercial, entertainment, and hospitality spaces.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Mahama outlined the government's strategic vision beyond merely attracting more passengers. He emphasized the importance of positioning Ghana as a preferred destination, a convenient transit point, and a competitive aviation hub across the African continent. He highlighted a notable surge in passenger traffic at the airport, growing from 1.8 million in 2022 to an estimated 2.5 million in 2025, underscoring the urgent need for expanded infrastructure.

Mahama also revealed that all airport projects, including the new GCAA control tower, the renovation of Terminal 2, the transfer concourse linking Terminals 2 and 3, and the new parking and commercial complex, are being financed entirely by the accrued resources of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Ghana Airports Company Limited.

Notably, these projects are being funded without any direct government financial intervention. He reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to bolstering aviation infrastructure and connectivity, while simultaneously championing professionalism, discipline, and courtesy within the aviation sector.
