CIA Director on secret Moscow visit: Reports

CIA Director John Ratcliffe has reportedly landed in Moscow for clandestine high-level discussions with Russian security and intelligence officials, according to CBS News and international media reports. This marks the first secret visit to Moscow by a sitting CIA chief since 2021. The unannounced flight arrived at Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport early today, touching down at roughly 10 am Moscow time (07:00 GMT).

The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft, originating from Andrews Air Force Base near Washington DC, made multiple stops en route to Russia, including in Charleston, South Carolina and Riga, Latvia. No official comment has been made by the CIA, Department of Defense, or Air Force regarding the visit. However, sources familiar with the trip suggest the visit may involve sensitive negotiations, possibly including prisoner exchanges following Ratcliffe's role in the April 2025 release of US-Russian dual national Ksenia Karelina.

This mission echoes a similar visit by former Director William Burns in November 2021, aimed at preventing the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The flight's purpose and the nature of the cargo on board remain undisclosed by both the Pentagon and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
