Im Sung-jae misses out on PGA Tour playoff finale for 1st time

For the first time in his PGA Tour career, Im Sung-jae will not participate in the playoff finale in Atlanta. Im is tied for 10th place at the BMW Championship, the second stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs, at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis on Sunday (local time). His four-round total stands at eight-under 272, which is a strong performance, but it was not sufficient to secure a top-30 finish in the FedEx Cup standings, thereby preventing him from advancing to the Tour Championship in Atlanta to conclude the playoffs.

Im was ranked 40th in FedEx Cup points heading into the BMW Championship and required at least a tie for sixth place to break into the top 30. However, he ultimately ended up in 37th place. Im was tied for fourth place midway through the tournament, following rounds of 67 and 64, but it was a decline over the weekend, as he shot 70 and 71.

In the final round, Im managed a birdie and an eagle, but also encountered four bogeys. Im had participated in every Tour Championship for the past seven editions, starting from his rookie season in 2018-19. Im had missed the initial two months of the season due to a wrist injury and has exhibited an uncharacteristically lackluster form in recent times.
