Embattled Infantino says Fifa must close financial gap between ‘big countries’ and ‘others’

Fifa President Gianni Infantino defended the organization's responsibility to bridge the financial disparity between wealthy football federations and those with limited resources. Infantino made the remarks during a video interview following a meeting with Caribbean Football Union members in the Dominican Republic. He emphasized the need to find opportunities and resources for all member nations, acknowledging that some prosperous federations do not wish to see others grow.

The Fifa chief's comments come amid growing calls for a vote of no confidence against him, with regional powerhouses including UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF considering the move. Uefa, Asia's AFC, and CONCACAF are among those contemplating the vote of no confidence. Infantino expressed his satisfaction with the reception he received during his visit to the Caribbean Football Union's under-14 Challenge Series.

However, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani had requested Infantino to stay away from the tournament, citing mounting opposition to his leadership.
