Im Sung-jae misses out on PGA Tour playoff finale for 1st time

Im Sung-jae, a South Korean golfer, will not participate in the PGA Tour playoff finale due to finishing tied for 10th place at the BMW Championship. The BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, took place at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis. Im's total for the four rounds was eight-under 272, which placed him in the second consecutive top-10 finish in the tournament.

However, his performance fell short of securing a top 30 position in the FedEx Cup standings, which would have granted him a place in the Tour Championship to conclude the playoffs. Im currently ranks 40th in FedEx Cup points and would have needed to at least tie for sixth place to advance to the Tour Championship. Instead, he finished 37th in the standings.

Im had a strong start to the BMW Championship, tying for fourth place after the first two rounds with scores of 67 and 64. However, he struggled in the latter half of the tournament, posting rounds of 70 and 71, resulting in a final round of 70 and 71. Despite playing in the past seven editions of the Tour Championship, including his rookie season from 2018-19, Im missed the first two months of the season due to a wrist injury.

His late-season push saw him secure four consecutive top-15 finishes, but it was not enough to propel him to the final event. Two other South Korean golfers, Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim, will also compete in the Tour Championship. Kim Si-woo currently sits at 33rd place in the BMW Championship with a score of two-under 278, while Tom Kim is at 28th place with three-under 277. Both players are making their first Tour Championship appearances since 2023.
