Police Arrest Five Suspected Telecom Vandals in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of telecommunication vandalism, along with the recovery of a truckload of stolen iron rods in the Ibeju-Lekki district. The suspects, Mohammed Shaibu, Musa Zakari, Abdullahi Bala, Salisu Musa, and Yahuza Bala, have been accused of stealing iron poles intended for the construction of telecommunication towers.

Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspects were intercepted while transporting the stolen materials in a vehicle. The suspects are currently in police custody, and detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba are probing the incident. Further efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining suspects and assess the full extent of the alleged vandalism spree.

The operation's success is credited to the partnership between the Lagos State Police Command and the Nigerian Army's 81 Division. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, emphasized that the force remains dedicated to safeguarding critical infrastructure and holding accountable those involved in vandalism and theft. He encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
