Profile: Odeneho Kwaku Appiah ‘COKA’ – The grassroots organiser now leading Ashanti NPP

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, affectionately known as COKA, transitioned from grassroots leader to the recently elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region. His rise to prominence is built upon a foundation of dedication and practical results. During his first attempt at securing the regional chairmanship in 2022, he secured 306 votes, narrowly losing to Bernard Antwi Boasiako by a margin of 158 votes.

Undeterred, COKA continued his unwavering commitment to his constituents, neighborhood, and the NPP, earning him the moniker "Asanteman COKA, I Care." His campaign for the regional chairmanship in 2023 centered on returning the NPP to its former glory by emphasizing structure, unity, and tangible results. He set an ambitious agenda to regain presidential votes, bolster parliamentary representation, and secure victory in the forthcoming 2028 elections.

COKA's electoral success hinged on a return to grassroots organizing, where he held several pivotal roles, including Ward Organiser, Ward Chairman, Regional Financial Secretary, and Constituency Chairman for Afigya Kwabre. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a master’s degree in Peace, Security, and Intelligence.

In addition to his political pursuits, COKA is known for his entrepreneurial endeavors and philanthropic work, which have bolstered the NPP's base during its years in opposition. With Ashanti being the party's largest stronghold, COKA's leadership will be evaluated based on the party's ability to regain those 10 lost parliamentary seats and restore presidential vote numbers in the 2028 general election.
