You’ve got mail: Goa police say drugs are entering the state via post

Goa police have expressed concern over drugs being smuggled into the state via postal services and courier deliveries. Earlier this year, a consignment of hashish was intercepted in a steam iron, concealed in a parcel. In response, the police department has sought the help of courier and postal service operators and delivery partners to curb drug trafficking.

The initiative is part of a broader three-year plan under the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' campaign. At an awareness meeting, the Goa police briefed operators about the emerging trend of using "dead-drop" delivery methods to smuggle narcotics, where buyers send money to sellers who then provide coordinates for the receiver to pick up the drugs.

Police officials emphasized the importance of vigilance, strict adherence to KYC norms, parcel verification, and reporting suspicious consignments to law enforcement agencies. The most commonly seized drugs in Goa include ganja, charas, LSD, MDMA/ecstasy, and cocaine, with cannabis mainly trafficked from Jharkhand and Odisha, charas from Himachal Pradesh and Nepal, LSD from Kerala, and ecstasy/MDMA from Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
