Osun poll peaceful despite operational challenges – CDD

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has described the 2026 Osun State governorship election as largely peaceful despite operational challenges. CDD-West Africa's Election Analysis Centre (EAC) assessed the election across all 30 local government areas, 332 registration areas, and 3,763 polling units in the state. The assessment was based on reports from field observers and reviews of credible media reports.

INEC recorded a successful deployment, with officials arriving at 89.1% of the polling units before 8:30 a.m., and 94.5% of the total polling units opening by the same time. However, some challenges were identified, such as delays in Ife Central and Aiyedire Local Government areas, technical difficulties with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), reports of vote buying and voter inducement, and isolated incidents of violence in Ejigbo and Modakeke.

The CDD-EAC urged INEC to ensure functional backup equipment and rapid technical assistance, as well as investigations into allegations of vote buying and prosecution of proven offences.
