The theory, shared by internet personality John DePetro, suggested that Lindsay Clancy may have believed she was committing the act because she saw Rachel Danis, Patrick's current wife, doing something similar.

However, authorities have not supported this claim, and Lindsay remains the only person on trial. The theory arose from alleged physical similarities between Lindsay and Rachel, suggesting that Lindsay saw herself committing the act while looking at her new wife. Despite many online agreeing with the theory, it has no basis in fact, as Rachel Danis and the Clancy family did not meet until 2024.
