FDA Issues Notices To Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff Over Vimal Elaichi Ad

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has served show-cause notices to Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff for their involvement in a 'Vimal Elaichi' advertisement. The FDA contends that the advertisement's branding may constitute indirect promotion of prohibited pan masala and tobacco products.

Actors have been granted 15 days to furnish explanations and supporting documents regarding their association with the advertisement. The FDA has also instructed them to cease their participation in the advertisement and delete related promotional material from their official social media accounts, websites, and digital platforms.

The notices request information on endorsement agreements, campaign details, product specifics, financials, advertising agencies, and brand owners involved in the campaign. The FDA seeks clarification on whether 'Vimal Elaichi' is an independently marketed product or a brand extension used to promote Vimal pan masala or tobacco products.

Additionally, the FDA questions if the 'Vimal' name and its presentation create an association with pan masala among consumers. The All Foods and Drugs License Holders Association had previously lodged a complaint with the FDA about the advertisement approximately one and a half months ago. The FDA has not yet declared the actors guilty, but the notices provide them with a chance to explain their involvement and submit relevant documentation.
