Anwar says any decision on Umno must prioritise people’s welfare, ‘not anger’

MELAKA, Aug 16 — Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed party delegates today, emphasizing that decisions concerning PKR's cooperation with BN and Umno should prioritize the people's welfare over anger. At his party's congress, Anwar stated that any move regarding their association with the opposition should be approached with political wisdom, putting national interests above partisan conflicts.

However, he hinted that the party wouldn't rule out engaging in battle or dismantling their opponents if necessary. "With regards to Umno-BN, whatever the decision it cannot be based on our disappointment or anger," Anwar said, receiving boos and jeers from delegates towards Umno during his speech. "It must always be driven by public and national interests.

You may say they (Umno-BN) care less about the people, I say we must care. Because we should be the rational one, and there must be wisdom and insights. The pact of the unity government would not have been possible if not for wisdom, without the realization and utmost love for the country," Anwar added.
