Anwar says any decision on Umno must prioritise people’s welfare, ‘not anger’

Melaka, August 16 - Prime Minister and PKR president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, addressed party delegates during the current congress, emphasizing that the well-being of the people should be the primary consideration when determining the party's relationship with Barisan Nasional (BN) and its cornerstone, Umno. In his concluding remarks, Anwar stressed that any decisions in this matter should not be influenced by anger but rather through a judicious political strategy that prioritizes national interests over factional disputes.

Despite urging caution, Anwar hinted that PKR would not hesitate to take a firm stance, dubbed "langgar" in Malay, if any of its members were compelled to do so. Speaking amidst protests from the floor, Anwar made it clear that any stance taken on the Umno-BN relationship must be guided by public and national interests. He further asserted that while Umno and BN may appear indifferent to the needs of the people, PKR remains committed to being the logical choice and must demonstrate a deep love and understanding for the nation.

The president concluded by acknowledging that the unity government would not have been possible without the wisdom and unwavering dedication to the country's welfare.
