Onn Hafiz: Bangsa Johor rental deposit aid of RM1,000 to roll out next year

Johor's Chief Minister, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, announced plans to launch a rental deposit assistance program for Johor residents next year, aiming to support those struggling to afford the initial payment for accommodation. The initiative, administered by the Johor State Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ), responds to tenant complaints about the financial burden of upfront payments.

Federal civil servants serving in Johor, such as teachers, nurses, medical officers, police officers, and armed forces personnel, will also be eligible. Onn Hafiz emphasized the potential benefits for new inhabitants of Johor, particularly federal civil servants who have recently relocated. The first phase will assist around 10,000 recipients, with each beneficiary receiving an additional RM2,500 in rental assistance, totaling RM3,500 per person.

Eligibility applies to individuals residing and working in Johor, and further information, along with new housing products, will be unveiled during the state budget presentation in November. During today's event, RM22 million was allocated for Phase 5, providing assistance to 6,000 recipients across various housing assistance schemes.

Phase 6, set to commence the following month, will benefit an additional 5,000 recipients. Since 2022, the Johor government has allocated RM337 million toward its housing initiatives, benefiting nearly 100,000 people across the state.
