Onn Hafiz: Bangsa Johor rental deposit aid of RM1,000 to roll out next year

The Johor government is set to introduce a rental deposit assistance program called Bangsa Johor with a contribution of RM1,000 in the upcoming year, as announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The initiative, administered by the Johor State Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ), aims to help tenants who struggle to pay the upfront rental deposit.

The program will be open to federal civil servants working in Johor, including teachers, nurses, medical officers, police personnel, and armed forces members. Onn Hafiz highlighted the need for expanded assistance for those who have recently moved to Johor, particularly federal civil servants who serve in the state. The first phase of the rental deposit assistance will target around 10,000 recipients, with eligible individuals also receiving a Rental Assistance of RM2,500, making the total assistance available RM3,500 per person.

The government has already allocated RM22 million for Phase 5, benefiting 6,000 recipients, and Phase 6, scheduled for the following month, is expected to assist another 5,000 recipients. Since 2022, the Johor government has invested RM337 million in its housing agenda, reaching nearly 100,000 recipients statewide.
