Osun decides: Osogbo calm as voters head to poll

Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, remained tranquil on Saturday morning as citizens began their journey to polling stations for the gubernatorial election. Reports by DAILY POST across different regions of the city indicated a generally peaceful environment, with residents going about their daily routines while preparations for the voting process continued.

Police officers and security personnel were visible at each polling station, ensuring the safety of voters. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), along with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) representatives, presiding officers, and assistant presiding officers were stationed at various polling units. Voter registration documents were placed in front of eligible voters, allowing them to verify their names on the electoral roll.

Observers, both local and international, were present at several polling stations. The areas surveyed included Ogo-Oluwa, Alekuwodo, Baruwa, Jaleyemi, Okefia, Fagbewesa, Isale-Aro, and Asubiaro, all of which displayed no signs of major unrest. The situation was similarly calm around Gbodofon, Awosuru, the capital region, and Tinumola as voters prepared to participate in the election.

Some voters were seen heading towards their respective polling locations, while others remained at home until the start of the voting process. A resident from Ogo-Oluwa, Wale Ajelogbon, expressed that people in his area were ready to cast their votes peacefully, emphasizing their desire to maintain tranquility throughout the election.

In Alekuwodo and Baruwa, residents continued with their regular morning activities while waiting for election officials to arrive and begin the accreditation and voting procedures. Jaleyemi, Okefia, and Fagbewesa observed similar scenes, with no reports of violence or disruption as voters prepared to participate in the poll. In Isale-Aro, Asubiaro, and Gbodofon, residents were also preparing to leave for their assigned polling units, and the atmosphere remained relatively quiet.

The same level of calm was maintained in Awosuru, the capital area, and Tinumola as voters awaited the commencement of the voting process.
