‘Can’t seize by tweet’: Iran mocks Trump after ‘will claim Hormuz’ threat

President Donald Trump claimed that the United States would soon turn the strategically important Strait of Hormuz into a territory of the United States during a New York event. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, swiftly responded on X, stating that the Strait of Hormuz cannot be seized by tweet and will always belong to Iran.

Gharibabadi further warned Trump that he could not seize the Hormuz Strait by aircraft carrier or election speech, referencing the ongoing conflict that began in February. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also commented on the situation, pointing out that a peace agreement had been signed in Pakistan in June and accused the US of breaking it.

He admitted that returning to the negotiating table was not decided yet but expressed the need for new communication channels to rebuild trust. Additionally, Araghchi mentioned ongoing talks with Oman about jointly managing the Hormuz Strait.
