Toronto police say 2022 murder suspect who goes by ‘Jay’ linked to attempted killing

Toronto police have identified a suspect in the 2022 murder of Ding Ping Wang, a 31-year-old Scarborough father, calling him "Jay." The suspect is also believed to be responsible for an attempted murder that took place months later in the same Scarborough parking lot. Det. Sgt. Sajeev Nair revealed these details during a news conference.

Wang, a husband and father who owned a kitchen cabinet business, was killed on November 12, 2022, while sitting inside a vehicle at a plaza near Midland and Passmore avenues. Police now believe the suspect was left-handed and had a distinct walking gait. The case gained new attention after police released security footage and an artist's rendering of the suspect earlier this summer, which prompted tips and led to the name "Jay" being identified.

The footage from the attempted murder on March 10, 2023, shows a person entering a white Toyota van while a suspect in a black SUV fires multiple shots. Police suspect the same individual was involved in both incidents, but are open to the possibility of a connection. The suspect's last name remains unknown, and police are urging anyone with information about "Jay," his movements, associates, or the vehicle to come forward.
