Osotsi challenges Kenya’s old guard to give young people chance to lead

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is urging young people to seize leadership opportunities in various spheres of society, dismissing the notion that they are too inexperienced. At a youth conference, the senator challenged them to actively seek positions of influence, regardless of the setting, be it in politics, the church, or elsewhere.

Osotsi emphasized that he is aware of those who doubt the youth's ability to lead, but he dismissed their arguments as outdated and contrary to Kenya's democratic ideals. He highlighted past examples of young leaders who successfully held high-ranking positions, citing Musalia Mudavadi as a prime example who held a ministerial role at the tender age of 28.

Osotsi, a prominent member of the Linda Mwananchi movement, stressed that empowering young people is crucial to the movement's agenda of promoting citizen participation in governance. Drawing from biblical examples, he argued that age should not be a hindrance to leadership and that competence, vision, and commitment are far more important factors.

Osotsi called for society to embrace and cultivate youthful leadership, urging Kenyans to respect the youth and to respect their choice in the upcoming elections, which he believes should be conducted peacefully and in accordance with democratic principles.
