Nigel Farage wins Clacton by-election

In the Clacton by-election, Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, emerged victorious, defying expectations and securing over 11,000 more votes than his main opposition, Count Binface. Farage, who had triggered the election to avoid an investigation into donations received before his return to politics, did not attend the count, citing a credible security threat.

Despite this, he confidently declared an "overwhelming win" to his supporters. The turnout of 44% was higher than anticipated, though lower than the 58.7% at the 2024 general election. Farage had called for the by-election and resigned as Clacton MP five weeks prior due to scrutiny over a £5m gift he received from Thai crypto magnate Christover Harborne.

Despite Farage's initial stance that he had "done nothing wrong," major parties, including Labour, the Conservatives, and the Liberal Democrats, boycotted the vote, rendering the election a significant clash between Farage and the establishment.
