Nintendo is now warning customers about upcoming Switch 2 price hike in stores — and it's a reminder to buy ASAP if you want one

Nintendo is informing customers about an upcoming price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 via in-store kiosks. Starting September 1, 2026, the retail price for the console will rise from $449.99 to $499.99. This change comes as a result of the ongoing RAM crisis, which has caused shortages across the gaming and tech industry. While the increase may not be as drastic as those seen by PlayStation and Xbox, it's worth noting that the Nintendo Switch experienced a price hike in August 2025.

Nintendo has been praised for providing ample time for customers to purchase the console before the price hike. This is attributed to the RAM crisis, which has led to DRAM shortages affecting nearly all hardware manufacturers. Samsung, one of the major RAM manufacturers, predicts even more significant shortages in 2027 and beyond.

However, consumers hope that companies like Nintendo will set a precedent for fair pricing practices across the gaming and tech industry.
