Nintendo’s next Fire Emblem has a bold new structure

It has been 13 years since I first fell in love with the Fire Emblem series, but my excitement has been rekindled with the release of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Set in the kingdom of Dagda, this tactical RPG has captured my attention and reminds me of the brilliance that drew me to RPGs in the first place. Here's why Fortune's Weave could be the epic game that defines the Nintendo Switch 2.

The story revolves around the Heroic Games, a grand tournament in Dagda's capital, Dagsion, where the victor can make a wish. However, five years later, turmoil has engulfed the land, and the demonic god Balor has returned. The goddess Sothis has chosen you, the main protagonist, to save humanity from the darkness. To do so, you must travel back in time and recruit the four Flame Lords - Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda - to help you battle the darkness.

The narrative is tight, clear, and gripping, with each character having their own distinct storyline and charisma. I started with Dietrich, a majestic and skilled warrior, and the character design, voice acting, and gameplay kept me enthralled. Throughout the game, I had the opportunity to experience each protagonist's journey, with unique mechanics and strong character development.

While the core gameplay remains the same, Fortunes Weave offers some fresh mechanics, such as Blaze Arts, which add a new layer to the combat experience. You can also engage in side activities like training, temple service, and dining at inns, which not only break up the main story but also enhance the vibrant atmosphere of Dagsion. Overall, Fortune's Weave delivers a compelling tactical RPG experience that will surely enthrall both newcomers and veteran fans of the series.
