Sourav Ganguly, wife Dona receive death threats; Kolkata Police begin probe

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has reportedly received threatening letters over the past six months, including two that allegedly threatened his life and that of his wife, Dona Ganguly, according to news agency PTI. The matter came to light after Ganguly, who is the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), filed a formal complaint with the Thakurpukur Police Station in south Kolkata.

Initially, the letters sent to Ganguly's office were not taken seriously. However, two letters received on Monday contained explicit threats to commit murder against Ganguly, his wife, and those close to him. The police have initiated an investigation to identify the sender and understand the motive behind these threats. Preliminary reports suggest that the letters may have been dispatched via courier service from Belgharia in North 24 Parganas district.

The police are examining the courier trail, tracking the SIM card used by the sender, and speaking with personnel from the courier agency to gather further information. They are also investigating whether all the letters were sent by the same individual and are exploring the underlying reason for these alleged threats.
