Johor sets up special team to probe claims of Singapore waste dumped in Pontian

Johor government establishes special team to investigate allegations of illegal waste dumping from Singapore in Pontian, according to Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, chairman of the Johor Housing and Local Government Committee. The team, comprising local authorities, police, district offices, and the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWCorp), aims to thoroughly investigate the claims and address any ongoing illegal activities.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor stated that any waste brought from Singapore without proper permits or approvals should not be allowed, and the state government will take appropriate legal action. Authorities have received reports of the alleged illegal dumping in Sungai Karang, Pontian, and surrounding areas, but investigations are still ongoing.

If evidence of continuing illegal activities is found, an integrated enforcement team will be promptly deployed. DAP parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng had previously called for accountability, questioning potential negligence in enforcement and checkpoint checks between Singapore and Johor, if the allegations prove true.
