Russia strikes Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya with Zircon missiles

Russian forces unleashed a missile attack on Ukraine overnight into August 11, targeting Kyiv and Zaporizhzhya with Zircon anti-ship missiles and Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, according to Ukrainian air defenses. Ukrainian air defenses were unable to intercept any of the missiles, with the Air Force reporting no interceptions.

Russian forces also launched attacks on the country using 120 Shahed-type attack drones, Gerbera drones, and Parodiya decoy drones. The primary targets were the Kyiv and Zaporizhzhya oblasts. By 9 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had neutralized 98 enemy drones across the northern, southern, and eastern parts of Ukraine. The missile strikes struck 21 locations, with debris falling in five additional areas.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned that the attack was still ongoing, with several Russian drones still in the sky. Overnight on August 11, Russia launched ballistic missiles from Kyiv, causing a fire at warehouses in the Shevchenkivskyi district and hitting the grounds of a children's hospital. An injured person was reported by Ukraine's State Emergency Service.

Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhya with missiles and aerial bombs, resulting in six deaths and around 20 injuries. The attacks caused damage to four apartment buildings, industrial and infrastructure facilities, a garage cooperative, non-residential structures, and sparked fires and power outages.
