A wealthy woman died after being bitten by a crocodile while searching for snails with her son near the Sungai Suai, Batu Niah, early today. Sambai Anggah, aged 78, was bitten by the reptile while in a boat, while her son was in the river about a meter away from the incident. The operations commander from Niah Bomb and Rescue Station, Azlan Bin Azaman, said they received a call about the incident at 11:26 am before sending a team of five members with an FRT dinghy to the scene.

According to the information received, the victim was with her son who was searching for snails near the river when they were suddenly bitten by a crocodile. Her son saw the incident and the crocodile then dragged the victim about 10 meters away from the boat before releasing her when trapped by villagers, according to The Malaysian Digest.

She was later found floating before being brought to the jetty. The victim was confirmed dead before being handed over to the police for further action.
