Tiada usul jual hotel Felda ketika saya pengerusi, kata Shabery

Former Felda chairman Shabery Cheek has stated that there were no proposals to sell any of the agency's hotels in London during his tenure, which concluded at the end of June. Felda owns four properties in London - two hotels and two student accommodations. "No application was made to sell any Felda hotel in London while I was at Felda," he said.

Despite this, the Sun Daily reported the sale of one of the four properties for £160 million (RM867 million) after citing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's concerns about Felda's hotel sales. Shabery expressed concern that the Prime Minister may have received incorrect advice or was trying to capitalize on the situation. He emphasized that the clarification of details surrounding the four London properties is necessary to prevent confusion between the value of an individual property and the total value of the portfolio.

Furthermore, he stated that approval for selling Felda's assets requires authorization from the government, including the Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister's advisory board. On Friday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he rejected a £100 million (RM550 million) proposal to sell one of Felda's hotels, after learning it had been bought by a former manager for £160 million.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the Felda management had met with him two months prior to seek approval for the sale. As a result, he directed a full report to be submitted on the matter, adding that Felda should not suffer losses while still struggling with insufficient income and inadequate infrastructure.
