Russia, Ukraine exchange overnight strikes that leave 7 dead, many injured

Russia and Ukraine exchanged overnight strikes that resulted in civilian casualties and numerous injuries, according to local authorities. The attacks killed seven people and injured many others on both sides. Large-scale Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities have been frequent in recent weeks, taking advantage of Ukraine's limited interception capabilities.

Ukrainian drones killed five people and injured two dozen others, including a four-year-old boy, in Russia's border region of Belgorod. In Kharkiv, Russia's missile strikes hit a high-rise apartment block, killing two people and injuring thirteen. Eight more people were injured in Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa after numerous missiles and drones struck the area.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been urging other countries, particularly the U.S., to provide more Patriot systems, which are crucial for defending civilians. Russia claims its strikes targeted drone warehouses in Kharkiv, fuel depots, and other military equipment in Odesa, while also shooting down 153 Ukrainian drones during the night.

Ukrainian authorities report damage to civilian buildings in Belgorod, Novorossiysk, and other regions. Moldova reported a powerful explosion near the border with Ukraine caused by a combat drone, resulting in no injuries but a vegetation fire. Bulgaria summoned Ukraine's ambassador after a drone entered its airspace and exploded near an international gas pipeline, though no casualties were reported.
