Ukraine Strikes Oil Refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Region in Drone Attack

A fire at the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia's southern Krasnodar region was put out by local authorities on Saturday, with the cause attributed to debris from a Ukrainian drone. Ukrainian military sources reported that both the Ilsky and Syzran oil refineries were hit overnight, resulting in fires at both locations. The Syzran refinery is situated in Russia's Samara region, located further north.

According to Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, the governor of the Samara region, Ukrainian drones targeted an industrial facility in the area. These attacks are part of Ukraine's efforts to disrupt Russia's energy infrastructure, aiming to reduce the financial resources available to fund its military operations. The Ilsky refinery, with a design capacity exceeding 6 million metric tons of oil per year, and the Syzran refinery, capable of processing 8.5 million tons annually, are significant energy production facilities.

Russia's Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses successfully destroyed 397 Ukrainian drones across various regions throughout the night. However, the authenticity of both sides' claims remains unverified. The Moscow Times, a Russian newspaper, has faced censorship from the Russian government, with its designation as an "undesirable" organization and classification as a "foreign agent."
