Russia orders 'free hunting' drone strikes in Kherson Oblast

Russian forces in Ukraine's Kherson Oblast have been ordered to conduct so-called "free hunting" drone strikes on vehicles, including those equipped with fiber-optic-guided models, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin. The orders came on August 8, based on information from Ukraine's Defense Forces. Russian troops have reportedly bolstered the number of drone crews in the area to execute these operations, Prokudin stated.

The focus is on identifying vehicles that may appear to belong to Ukraine's Defense Forces. Prokudin also warned of an increased risk of drone strikes near locations where many vehicles congregate, such as supermarkets, markets, and gas stations. On August 6, Russian forces launched a drone attack on a passenger bus in Kherson, injuring five people, including a 15-year-old.
