Serbia Backs Ukraine’s Borders With ‘No Buts’

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić pledged unreserved backing for Ukraine's territorial integrity, declaring that there are "no 'buts'" on the matter during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Belgrade. Vučić underscored Serbia's steadfast commitment to the UN Charter and its resolutions, emphasizing that territorial integrity applies to all UN members, including Ukraine.

The two presidents signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the fields of animal health and food safety, with the signing ceremony attended by Serbia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Dragan Glamočić, and Ukraine's Ambassador to Serbia, Oleksandr Lytvynenko. Vučić also expressed hope that Ukraine would move swiftly through the EU accession process and assured Ukraine of Serbia's support along the way.

The Serbian president further stated that Serbia would do "everything it can" to aid Ukraine in its European path. Vučić acknowledged that the Russia-Ukraine war likely won't conclude anytime soon, expressing concern for a challenging winter for Ukrainians, though he still hoped for an early resolution. Serbia will deliver a humanitarian aid package to Ukraine, focusing on medicine and energy, which Zelensky welcomed.

The Ukrainian president's visit to Belgrade signified his first official trip to Serbia. Despite Serbia's limited support for Western sanctions against Russia following the 2022 invasion, Vučić's unequivocal support for Ukraine's borders reflects his stance on territorial integrity.
