Arsenal sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle in £75m deal

Arsenal has secured Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a £75 million deal, the Premier League champions confirmed on Saturday. The 28-year-old captain, who previously played for Olympique Lyonnais, signed a four-year contract with a one-year extension, adding one of the league's top midfielders to Mikel Arteta's squad.

Speaking about his move, Guimaraes expressed his excitement about joining Arsenal and the new challenge ahead. "Since the first time I spoke to [Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea] Berta and Mikel, I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge," he said.

Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyonnais in January 2022, has been a key player for the team over the past three seasons. He has also represented Brazil at the recent World Cup and regularly featured for the national team. The midfielder's versatility and ability to play both defensively and creatively have made him a valuable asset for Newcastle.
