Scotland closing in on head coach to replace Clarke

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) is nearing a decision on the appointment of a new head coach to replace Steve Clarke, who resigned following Scotland's World Cup group-stage elimination. Clarke had recently extended his contract for another four years. Scotland will resume their international campaign with a four-match Nations League block, beginning with an away fixture against Slovenia on September 26th.

The search for Clarke's successor is being spearheaded by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and Craig Mulholland, who was appointed chief football officer in May. Maxwell and Mulholland have reportedly engaged with a diverse pool of candidates from across the UK and overseas. Discussions and interviews have taken place, and the SFA is now in close proximity to making a final decision.

The identity of the incoming head coach remains uncertain, with no indication yet as to whether the new leader will be Scottish or foreign. Steven Naismith, who served as Clarke's assistant coach, indicated last month that he anticipates continuing his involvement with the national team under the guidance of the new coach.
