Teacher killed, four injured in Thailand school shooting, police say

A shooting at a school in Thailand on Friday resulted in the death of one teacher and four other injuries, according to police. Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, the Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander, confirmed the casualties to Reuters, adding that the shooter had taken his own life. Among the injured were a teacher and three students, as reported by the officer.

The incident occurred in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, situated north of Bangkok. The perpetrator was identified as a student. One 18-year-old student told Reuters he initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers, stating, "I didn't think it was a gun at first. There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet.

Then it started again." Emergency photos showed students exiting the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, with ambulances and medics on the scene. The school, located on the outskirts of Bangkok, had an enrollment of approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers for the 2025 academic year, as per district authorities. In February of the same year, a similar incident took place in southern Thailand's Hat Yai district, where a teacher was killed and a student was injured when a gunman opened fire at a school.
