Alan Jones trial: complainant wants to ‘humiliate’ broadcaster by revealing intimate details of alleged assaults, defence tells court

Complainant J, a man in his 40s, testified in the ongoing trial of renowned broadcaster Alan Jones regarding allegations of historical indecent assault. In 2004, he claims that Jones instructed him to wear a robe and nothing else during a visit to Jones's property in Fitzroy Falls. The 85-year-old is accused of assaulting the complainant on nine separate occasions between 2003 and 2004, a claim for which J denies all charges.

The trial has witnessed cross-examination by barrister Gabrielle Bashir, who has questioned J's account and pointed out inconsistencies between his initial police statement and the court evidence. When asked why he did not stop the alleged behavior and why he followed Jones's instruction to wear a robe, J admitted to being "very fearfully" dressed in both the robe and underwear, and then went back to sit on the lounge with Jones.

Despite the horrifying experience, J revealed he continued with the visit due to fear of disappointing Jones, whom he had received weekly payments from to support his sporting career. Despite several staff members being present during the visit, J chose not to report the alleged assault at that time.
