Paul Afoko vows to reunite NPP and lead party back to power in 2028

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Awentami Afoko, announced his intention to reunite the party and lead it back to government in the 2028 general election if he secures re-election as National Chairman. Mr Afoko expressed his conviction that the NPP could regain the trust of Ghanaians, emphasizing the party's potential to return to power through unity, discipline, and a fortified grassroots structure.

In an interview held in Kumasi on Thursday, August 6, Mr Afoko stated that his decision to seek re-election as National Chairman followed extensive consultations with party elders, both former and current national executives, Members of Parliament, regional executives, and various youth, women, and grassroots groups across the nation.

These engagements revealed widespread apprehension about the party's current state but also a resolute belief that it could overcome its challenges under purposeful leadership. Mr Afoko's campaign pledge focused on the "Three Rs" – Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture. Reunifying the party would entail healing divisions, restoring trust, and fostering inclusiveness.

Strengthening party structures, empowering grassroots members, and ensuring the effective functioning of all party organs would constitute the rebuilding aspect. These measures, according to Mr Afoko, would enable the NPP to recapture political power by restoring public confidence and positioning itself as a united, disciplined, and credible alternative ready to govern.

He appealed to delegates to support his candidacy, promising transparent, inclusive, and selfless leadership that would prioritize the party's interests above personal ambition. Mr Afoko also urged members to uphold the values of sacrifice, commitment, and service, stating that unity remains the surest path to returning the NPP to government.
