Udhayanidhi Stalin held for controversial comment, released on bail after 10 hrs

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, faced arrest for making controversial remarks at a rally. Police detained him for over ten hours, transporting him from Chennai to Thanjavur, where he was accused of insulting a woman's modesty, obscenity, and criminal intimidation. The incident occurred on Monday, a day prior to the state assembly's budget session.

Udhayanidhi, who holds the third rank in the DMK party, was subsequently released on station bail at around 8pm on the same day and returned to Chennai around midnight. Udhayanidhi vehemently denied the allegations, stating that he had not made any inappropriate comments. Tamil Nadu Minister KG Arunraj also supported Udhayanidhi, asserting that the authorities had taken decisive action against the individual.

The row gained prominence in the context of the ongoing conflict between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery water-sharing issue.
