Pochettino agrees US manager contract extension

Mauricio Pochettino has extended his contract as manager of the United States men's national team until 2030. Pochettino, previously at Tottenham and Chelsea, led the US to the 2026 World Cup's last 16 before a loss to Belgium. The renewed contract expands his role to include advising US Soccer on various aspects of national team development, including youth soccer, coaching education, and professional league collaboration.

Speaking about the new deal, Pochettino expressed excitement about leveraging his experience to strengthen these areas and contribute to the sport in the U.S. The US team, co-hosts at the World Cup, reached the knockout stage with victories over Paraguay and Australia and a 2-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, their campaign ended with a 4-1 loss to Belgium.

Controversially, striker Folarin Balogun was sent off against Bosnia but avoided a suspension due to intervention from US President Donald Trump. US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone praised Pochettino's leadership, citing the team's growth and performance at the World Cup as evidence of his impact. She emphasized the importance of continuing to invest in the men's national team and the coaching staff he has cultivated.
