Mauricio Pochettino signs new deal to continue as USMNT head coach

In a recent announcement, U.S. Soccer confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino will extend his tenure as head coach of the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) until the 2030 World Cup. The Argentine coach, 54, had earlier led the USMNT to the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, marking a significant milestone in American soccer history.

After a brief pause, Pochettino decided to sign a new contract that will keep him with the program for another four years. Throughout his tenure, Pochettino has achieved a 17W-12L-2D record in 31 matches, setting records for the most World Cup wins, most USMNT wins at a single World Cup, and leading the team to its first knockout stage win since 2002.

US Soccer CEO JT Batson expressed his excitement about Pochettino's commitment to the federation's goals, including competing for World Cup titles and increasing soccer's popularity across all communities. Pochettino emphasized the importance of collaboration with U.S. Soccer, aiming to strengthen the player pool and integrate younger talent as the team continues to compete in upcoming tournaments.

The USMNT will face friendlies in the new September-October international window, followed by Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals in November, with qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Nations League Finals and next summer’s Gold Cup in the works. The 2030 World Cup qualifying cycle will commence in the September-October 2027 window, with the World Cup slated for Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
