Pochettino agrees to coach men’s US Soccer through 2030 World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino remains as the head coach of the United States soccer team, having recently agreed to a four-year contract extension. The deal secures his position through the 2030 World Cup. At 54 years old, Pochettino took charge in October 2024 and guided the U.S. to the World Cup round of 16, where they were defeated by Belgium 4-1.

Despite this setback, Pochettino's leadership helped the American squad achieve two firsts in the tournament: advancing from the group stage with a game to spare and securing three wins in a row. Under Pochettino's guidance, the U.S. has maintained a winning record in the tournament since reaching the quarterfinals in 2002, losing only four consecutive matches.

Pochettino acknowledges the close proximity between the U.S. and the world's best teams, stating that the gap between them is not insurmountable. He expressed optimism about the growth of soccer in the U.S., likening it to its status in other nations.
