Pochettino to stay as US coach until 2030 World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine former manager of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, has signed a contract extension to continue as head coach of the US national team until the 2030 World Cup. The 54-year-old led the US to the last 16 of the recent World Cup co-hosted with Canada and Mexico. Pochettino expressed his belief in the team's potential and the positive impact of the fans' passion during the tournament.

He also highlighted the importance of creating a lasting impact on the sport in the US, extending beyond on-field results. The Americans won three matches for the first time in a World Cup before being eliminated by Belgium, following a controversy surrounding a red card ban for striker Folarin Balogun. Pochettino took over in 2024 after Gregg Berhalter's departure, and helped the team reach the final of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone praised Pochettino's ability to build a trusted team culture that translated into success on the world stage. Despite high hopes for a strong showing at the 2002 World Cup, the US team was eliminated by Belgium last month, ending a decade-long losing streak.
