Israel is not 'testing' its ceasefires. It's violating them

Israel is not "testing" its ceasefires, it is blatantly violating them, according to recent reports. As of August 3, 2026, Israel has killed over 1,200 Palestinians in Gaza since agreeing to a ceasefire with Hamas in October. The western media, including major organizations like the BBC, Reuters, the Associated Press, and CNN, has largely ignored these violations, describing ceasefires as "fragile," "tested," "strained," or "shaky."

The ceasefires required Israel to withdraw its forces to agreed lines within Gaza and for Hamas to return all remaining Israeli hostages, both of which were met. However, Israel has continued to launch airstrikes, killing civilians, including women, children, and infants. For example, 14 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, and eight people were killed at a Palestinian funeral.

The Israeli military also attacked southern Lebanon, killing school principal Esperanza Ghandour, her mother, a domestic worker, and a Syrian laborer.

Despite these clear violations, the western media has failed to accurately report the situation. Reuters reported on the targeted killing of the Masri family, mentioning the deaths, but did not directly state that Israel had violated the ceasefire. Instead, it used the phrase "since" the ceasefire took effect, implying that the violations were not part of the truce.

The BBC also used the phrase "since" in its headline but qualified the violation in the body of the article, avoiding direct acknowledgment of the ceasefire breaches.

The Israeli army has defended its actions by accusing Iran-backed Hezbollah, a claim that lacks concrete evidence. Journalists working for these organizations argue that they are being fair and balanced, but the reality is that they are abandoning their duty to accurately report the violations of the ceasefire agreements. The Gaza deal explicitly stated that Israel's military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, would be suspended once the prerequisites were met.

Instead, Israel continues to kill Palestinians, treating their homes and families as legitimate targets. This pattern of violence and media negligence is a troubling double standard in international reporting.
