The Federal Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari announced on Monday that the expansion of Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari Airport in Dera Ghazi Khan is set to be finished by January 2028. During his visit to the site, the minister reviewed the project's status and received an update from the Civil Aviation Authority on its advancement and future enhancements.
The expansion is projected to cost Rs. 5.5 billion and will significantly enhance the airport's infrastructure. Specifically, the runway length will be increased from 1.9 kilometers to 3 kilometers, while the runway's width will double from 100 feet to 200 feet. These improvements will also encompass the installation of advanced lighting systems to facilitate night landings, alongside the construction of new waiting lounges and upgraded passenger facilities.
Leghari highlighted that four significant development projects are currently underway in Dera Ghazi Khan, including the expansion of the Indus Highway. He also mentioned that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is overseeing the development of a cancer hospital in the city. Furthermore, the development of a sewerage system capable of catering to the divisional headquarters' needs for the next 50 years is also progressing.
