Copyright & takedown

How to have material removed, and who to serve a formal notice on.

Last updated 9 August 2026.

What this site publishes

urgent.news reads publishers' public RSS feeds. It stores the headline, the link, a short machine-written summary in its own words, and where the feed supplies one, a small thumbnail. It does not republish article text. Every item links to the original and names the outlet.

The quick route

Most requests do not need a formal notice. Email legal@urgent.news saying what you want removed — a single item, a thumbnail, or your feed entirely — and it will be actioned. Feed exclusion is permanent and takes effect on the next poll. You can also use the report form and pick "I'm a publisher".

Formal notice

To submit a notice under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, or an equivalent notice under other law, send the following to the designated agent below:

  • Your signature (electronic is fine), and whether you are the rights owner or authorised to act.
  • Identification of the work you say is infringed.
  • The URL on this site of the material to be removed.
  • Your contact details.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, and that the information in the notice is accurate.

Designated agent

Copyright notices: legal@urgent.news, subject line DMCA.

Registration of a designated agent with the US Copyright Office is in progress; until it completes, the safe-harbour formalities of 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(2) are not met, and this page describes the route rather than claiming that status. Notices sent to the address above are acted on regardless.

Counter-notice

If material was removed and you believe that was a mistake, write to the same address with the material identified, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe it was removed in error, and your contact details.

Repeat infringers

Sources that repeatedly generate valid notices are removed from the ingestion list.
