San Jose - Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced plans to give one share of his space company SpaceX to every child in the United States next year. Musk posted this announcement on his online platform X, stating it would be his first initiative of its kind. He did not provide details on how the plan would be implemented.
According to the latest census data, there are roughly 70 million children under the age of 18 living in the United States. The current value of a SpaceX share at the company's present price point would make such a gift for each child worth more than ten billion dollars, approximately eight and a half billion euros. Musk's net worth, as estimated by financial service Bloomberg, stands at nearly nine hundred billion dollars, primarily consisting of shares from SpaceX and his other company, the electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.
The catalyst for Musk's move appears to be the announcement from AI firm Anthropic over the weekend, which pledged to invest five percent of its shares into a fund for the public good. Musk followed up on X, recommending the direct transfer of shares to the public.
