In a thrilling match at Cornella De Llobregat, Atletico Madrid secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Espanyol, putting pressure on La Liga leaders Barcelona. The decisive goal came in the 89th minute from Spanish international Alex Baena, who scored from the edge of the box after a pass from Julian Alvarez. This crucial win marked Atletico's sixth consecutive victory across all competitions and brought them level on points with Espanyol, now two points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Despite Espanyol's earlier chances, including a Leandro Cabrera header that struck the crossbar and Marcos Llorente's long-range effort finding the woodwork, Atletico held firm thanks to a resolute defense and Baena's late strike. Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a crucial save in stoppage time to secure the three points. The win also highlighted Baena's impressive form this season, following his World Cup triumph with Spain, as he continues to be a key player for his team.
