Microsoft unveiled details on its new ultra-tier Surface Laptop, which starts at $2,600 and is powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark chip. The laptop is the first of its kind to feature an Arm-based SoC from Nvidia, marking the company's entry into the PC CPU market. The Surface Laptop Ultra comes with a 24GB unified memory option and can be configured with RAM ranging from 24GB to 128GB, alongside storage options of 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB via PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 drives.

Nvidia and Microsoft have emphasized the chip's AI capabilities, but its gaming performance, particularly with Gears of War: E-Day and future titles like Call of Duty, could have significant implications for the Arm and integrated GPU markets. The laptop boasts a 15-inch 4K touchscreen with Dolby Vision IQ support and refresh rates up to 120Hz, promising up to 15 hours of video playback and 12 hours of web browsing on a single charge.

Ports include a first-of-its-kind built-in magnetic USB-C charging port that delivers up to 140W of power, along with USB-C ports supporting DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1b for connecting up to three 4K displays. Other RTX Spark laptops, including models from Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Asus, are set to launch on October 16, with prices ranging from $3,000 to $3,400.

Microsoft also introduced the RTX Spark Dev Box, priced at $6,000 and featuring the full-fat RTX Spark SoC with up to 1 petaflop of local AI compute.
