Rapper Rick Ross arrested over alleged choking, assault of woman

American rapper Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, has been arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, on charges of battery by strangulation and battery in an alleged domestic violence incident. Ross, 50, was arrested by Miami Beach police early Thursday and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman who had been in a relationship with Ross for about a year told police that the rapper became enraged after discovering she had been tagged in an Instagram photograph. She alleged that Ross slapped her in the face, struck her several times in the chest, grabbed the collar of her hoodie and twisted it around her neck, choking her, and slammed her against a wall.

Ross' lawyer, Bradley Horenstein, denied the allegations and urged the public not to rush to judgment, stating that the truth will come out. Ross' bond was set at $6,000, with $5,000 for the battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the battery charge. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
