Nakilat adds latest LPG/Ammonia vessel to its fleet

Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited, also known as Nakilat, marked an important milestone by naming its newest vessel, Energy North, during a ceremony held at the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam, South Korea. The new LPG/Ammonia carrier, scheduled to commence service on October 2, 2026, is the first in a series of six new vessels Nakilat plans to construct at the shipyard.

This includes two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers, demonstrating Nakilat's dedication to expanding its fleet and meeting the increasing demand for energy transport services worldwide.

Abdullah Al Sulaiti, Nakilat's Chief Executive Officer, expressed pride in the milestone, stating that the addition of the first vessel under Nakilat's fleet expansion program signifies a significant step forward. He emphasized the company's commitment to advancing a modern and diversified fleet that can reliably support the global energy transportation sector.

Al Sulaiti also highlighted the successful collaboration with HD Hyundai Samho and the entire project teams in bringing the vessel to this crucial stage. The company remains focused on achieving operational excellence, embracing innovation, and pursuing long-term sustainable growth.

Energy North boasts a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic meters, specifically designed to transport LPG and ammonia safely and efficiently. The vessel is equipped with advanced dual-fuel propulsion technology and emissions-reduction systems, which enhance fuel efficiency, operational flexibility, and environmental performance. Its readiness for ammonia transport reflects the evolving global energy landscape and positions Energy North to play a pivotal role in future low-carbon energy supply chains.
