DeepSeek unveils Huawei AI chip tools that may replace Nvidia’s

DeepSeek, a prominent AI lab in China, has unveiled software tools developed in partnership with Huawei Technologies that could potentially replace Nvidia's AI accelerators like CUDA. The Chinese startup announced the release of TileLang, an open-source software platform for Huawei's Ascend accelerators, on its WeChat account. This move signals a growing collaboration between two leading Chinese AI firms as they strive to create domestic alternatives to American technology.

Despite model training globally still heavily relying on Nvidia's semiconductors, DeepSeek intends to deploy at least 160,000 Huawei accelerators in a new data center. The company is also in the final stages of fundraising at an estimated valuation of 500 billion yuan (US$74 billion) ahead of a potential public listing. DeepSeek emphasizes the importance of an efficient programming language in building an effective AI ecosystem, highlighting their joint efforts with Huawei to optimize performance on Ascend 950 chips.
